The Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has got some serious plans for this year, one of which is to cement its place in the US smartphone market. Huawei announced soon cool tech stuffs at the ongoing CES 2016, they also made their plans of expanding its product range in US by announcing the launch of the Huawei Mate 8 in US.

This was accompanied by the  announcement of another smartphone that will join the party with the Mate 8 on US soils, the Huawei GX8. The GX8 is the same smartphone that was earlier in Thailand in November launched as the Huawei G8 or Huawei G7 Plus. Now this smartphone with 5.5-inch display is arriving in US with lowered spec sheet at a price tag of $350.

The Huawei Mate GX8 sports a 90% metal body and it carries dimensions of 152 x 76.5 x 7.5 mm and weighs 167 gm. It borrows some inspiration in terms of looks from the Mate line of smartphones. The smartphone sports 5.5 inch TFT LCD display on the front with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels that provides a pixel density of 401 ppi.


The US version of the Huawei GX8 is also powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and this is coupled with Adreno 405 GPU. It is the memory department which has suffered, the US version of the Huawei GX8 comes with 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB of RAM instead of 3GB that featured in the earlier one. The smartphone also offers 16GB of internal memory, which is further expandable using a microSD card.

One thing that makes the Huawei GX8 standout in this category is the camera. The smartphone features a good 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and this comes with optical image stabilization (OIS), which is a rarity in this price segment smartphones. With this the camera features a sapphire lens, wide aperture that improves the picture quality in low light conditions. On the front, the smartphone sports a 5MP secondary camera for the selfies addicts. The Huawei GX8 comes with 300mAh battery and runs Huawei’s own EMUI 3.1 on top of Android v5.1 Lollipop.

On paper, the Huawei GX8 looks like a very impressive mid-range smartphone and the specifications and features that it comes with, the Huawei GX8’s Price seems totally worth it.
