Microsoft after starting the sales of their Microsoft Lumia 550 in Europe just last week, launched the smartphone in India and it will be available starting December 23. The Lumia 550 is Microsoft’s cheapest smartphone to be running the latest Windows 10 OS for mobile (out of the box) and the smartphone will be available in two color variants – Glossy White and Matte Black. If you were wondering, the Lumia 550 will not come with the Windows 10 Continuum feature, which allows the smartphone to be used as a computer and mimic a desktop-style interface, that we saw in the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.
There are a handful of new features that Microsoft has included in the new Windows 10 OS such as their new Microsoft Edge browser, with this they have renovated OneDrive, Outlook mail, Microsoft Office, Cortana digital voice assistant, and their Glance Screen feature that allows users see notifications without completely unlocking the smartphone.

The latest Windows smartphone coming to India measure 136.1 x 67.8 x 9.9 mm and it weighs about 141.9 gms. The Lumia 550 sports a 4.7 inch HD display having a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of 315 ppi. The smartphone is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, clocked at 1.1GHz and coupled with 1GB of RAM space and Adreno 304 GPU. It offers 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, using which the storage space can be further expanded up to 200GB.
In the camera department, the Microsoft Lumia 550 flaunts a 5 MP camera on the rear with AF and LED flash, it supports HD video recording and has an aperture of f/2.4. The camera app comes with features such as touch focus, auto/ manual exposure, and geo-tagging. On the front, the smartphone features a 2 MP camera sensor with f/2.8. As already mentioned, the Lumia 550 runs the latest Windows 10.
The Microsoft Lumia 550 4G LTE connectivity along with other connectivity options such as – Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with hotspot functionality, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, USB 2.0, and FM radio. The smartphone has not included the USB Type-C port in this and stayed with the Micro-USB port. The smartphone is backed by a 2100mAh battery that is claimed to offer 28 days of standby, 16 and 14 hours of 2G and 3G talk time and 17 hours on 4G.
Before this, Microsoft started selling its flagship smartphones Lumia 950 and 950XL in India starting from December 11.
