Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Review: Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge earlier this year along with the Samsung Galaxy S6. In addition, before Samsung came out with the larger version of the S6 Edge, the S6 Edge Plus, it was the best Android phone available in the market according to me. If we keep out the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus from the discussion, which is almost 10000 rupees costlier to it, it still outshines all other Android Smartphones available in the market, be it in looks or performance.
Look at the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Review:
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was the second Smartphone to feature a curved display after the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. It is almost similar to its sibling, the Galaxy S6 with the addition of a curved display and it is slightly thinner and has a 50 mAh larger battery than the S6.

Build and Design:
Gone are the days of the plasticky body and now the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on both front and back of the device and the sides are occupied by aluminum. If you opt for a black Galaxy S6 Edge, you will not be much troubled by fingerprints but they show prominently on the black devices.
The 5.1 inches screen features a gorgeous curved display, it is a brilliant looking add on. The curved display lacks much functionality, but it stands out in the crowd of the similar looking Smartphones and demands attention.
The home button that sits below the display also acts as a fingerprint scanner and it now works great and the accuracy rate is very good now. The back of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge sports the 16 MP brilliant camera with single LED flash. With that, the heart rate monitoring sensors.
Samsung has now done away with the removable battery and the expandable memory options, which did not pinch much to me as the 32 and 64 GB options are pretty decent and using a power bank is more convenient than swapping a battery.
Samsung has by now mastered the art of producing brilliant quality super AMOLED displays and with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung has taken their brilliance in displays few steps forward and provided its users a marvel of a display.
The screen of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge measures 5.1-inches and it covers more than 70% of the front. The screen produces very sharp and great quality pictures on its QHD 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, at 577 ppi. This is very sharp, forget pixilation, and experience crystal clear text display.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge gets factors like color accuracy, brightness, contrast, and viewing fidelity bang on. Even while using the device outdoors under the sun, the screen offers great visibility.
Samsung like all its other phones have used the TouchWiz UI on top of Android Lollipop. According to Samsung, the new TouchWiz UI is 40% faster lighter than the previous versions of it. Moreover, in my usage I found that the version of the TouchWiz they have used in the S6 Edge is truly lots more smooth and fluid than the previous versions. A large number of bloatwares are now gone thankfully. You are now also provided option to use various themes if you like to play around with the UI experience.
The ‘Edge’ screen though does not have much functionality right now but there are a few cool stuffs that you can do with it. You can flick your finger over the edge to get the list of your five favorite contacts and another flick to get the list of your five favorite apps, these contacts and apps can be assigned from the settings. You can assign different colors to different contacts and you are notified for that contact in that selected color.
When the screen is off you can access the side screen by swiping up and down on the side screen, this will bring an information screen where you can get the feeds from you selected apps, like weather, news etc.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is not just about looks and it offers a fast and snappy performance too. Samsung has used its own Exynos 7 Processor in the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and it has performed brilliantly in all the multi-tasking sessions and the high performing game sessions I have put it through, without any sign of any lag and without much heating, which has been a problem with the Snapdragon 810.
The brilliant processor coupled with the 3 GB RAM satisfies all the Smartphone users, that too in abundance.
Samsung has come up with brilliant cameras in the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge features a 16 MP camera on the rear and a 5 MP one on the front. But the camera on the back that comes with a brighter f/1.9 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) has managed to particularly impress us.
The camera offers very fast autofocus and with this Samsung has managed to maybe surpass the camera on the iPhone 6S. The Optical Image Stabilization helps in clicking nice pictures in shaky conditions and in low light.
The camera captures lots of light, the pictures taken in daylight are utterly brilliant, and it clicks nice quality pictures in low light conditions too.
If you are into photography then you will love the Pro mode too, though I was not able to do much with that.
If one thing I could change about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge than it would have been the battery. At 2600 mAh the battery looks like an underachiever and the Galaxy S6 Edge totally deserved more battery juices.
Thankfully that phone features ‘fast charging’, due to which the phone gets fully charged in less than an hour and enough charged in 10 minutes to last you for 2 hours.
Expandable Storage, which was one of the most lovable things about Samsung, is a thing of the past now and to me that is not much of a problem. The device is available in the variants of 32 GB and 64 GB, which if you are not an extreme power user is going to be enough for you and as Samsung said that it will improve the performance, it is not a bad deal at all.
- Futuristic display no other Smartphone even comes near
- Delivers a nice and impressive performance
- Cameras take brilliant photos
- Improved fingerprint scanner
- Some might miss the microSD slot and removable battery
- Body attracts fingerprints
- Might just slip out of hand, use a cover
With the Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung now has the most beautiful looking Android phone in the market and it is a great performer too. The Smartphone is beautifully made, has fantastic looks and it stands out among all other Smartphones.
Yes, there is another option of the S6 Edge Plus but if you are not desperate enough for the 5.7 inches screen that you are willing to shell out the extra buck, the S6 Edge is perfect for you.
